LONDON

TOWER BRIDGE

London, the capital of the United Kingdom, is a city like no other. Its one of the most visited destination in the world and boasts approximately 30 million visitors each year and is high on the bucket list for many travelers. Although I had visited London before, in the summer of 2022, we decided to check this location off our list as a couple. What makes this location particularly special to me, is that the majority of maternal relatives reside in London for the past 3-4 generations. I have always felt connected to London and somewhat felt that if it wasn’t for particular forks in the road of my parents’ life, I too would have been from this amazing city.

The Borough Market

Once in London be prepared to have an experience that you will remember for a lifetime. Additionally, London’s nightlife has so much to offer. We particularly enjoyed Mercato Metropolitano, a massive airy market offering a range of street food from Jamaican, Italian, Vietnamese to Greek. The Borough Market, London’s premiere and historic market for good food and social connection was also a vibe.

Once we landed in London, we could hardly wait to start exploring the most cosmopolitan city in the world where at least 300 languages are spoken. We stayed in the Elephant and Castle district which was within walking distance from many attractions including The Shard. The tube was also super easy to use and so convenient. London is such a diverse city that no matter your reason for visiting, London has something for you. Here’s a list of my favorite, fun things to do when visiting London:

  1. London Eye - UK’s most popular tourist attraction

  2. Tower Bridge - not to be confused with London Bridge

  3. Emirates Air Cable - Cable car suspended 3,600 feet over the River Thames

  4. Big Ben - only UK residents can visit the interior of the tower

  5. London Bridge - oldest road crossing location on the river and famous in nursery rhymes

  6. Thames River Cruise - boat excursion that navigate many famous landmarks

  7. The Shard - the tallest building in western Europe of date with 360 degree views of London

  8. The O2 - arena for music and sports events, comedy, shopping and entertainment

  9. Red Phone Booth - because its so iconic

  10. Buckingham Palace with the changing of guard which occurs at 11 am for the past 500 years.
