St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Argyle International Airport

Argyle International Airport

St. Vincent and the Grenadines or simply St. Vincent is a multi-island country in the Caribbean. We traveled to St. Vincent in December 2019 without any expectations and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Stepping off Caribbean Airlines and entering their recently built airport was indeed a perfect first impression. The Argyle International Airport floors were still shiny and the walls still looked freshly painted. The immigration agents were so welcoming; it made you feel so happy to have finally arrived. Our excitement quickly turned into disappointment when we realized that our luggage did not make the flight. Apparently, this occurrence is a common phenomenon and airport staff did not seem to make a big deal about tourists not having their belongings on arrival.

We checked into the the beautiful Grenadine House, a historic site built in 1765 as the residence to the British Administrator of the island. The 18 guest room house overlooks the capital city of Kingstown towards the Grenadine Islands with breathtaking views. Upon check-in we were immediately invited to join the employees’ Christmas dinner celebration.

We explored the streets of Kingstown with its inhabitants hustling and bustling with preparations for Christmas. With parents from neighboring island, Kingstown gave me a glimpse of what life could have been from my parents growing up in St. Lucia. Kingstown was definitely a step back in time and I was truly amazed at the preserved architecture.

Our tour along the Leeward side showed off St. Vincent’s beaches and and cays as we headed to Dark View Falls. Dark View Falls consists of two spectacular waterfalls one above the other cascading down high cliffs and plunging into natural pools.

We also visited Fort Charlotte, enjoyed local cuisine and participated in Nine Mornings.

St. Vincent and the Granadines is rich in culture and history.

Would definitely love to visit again.
